We are currently looking for two apprentice pharmacy technicians to begin a vocational training programme in September 2025.
Role Overview
Pharmacy technicians are vital members of the pharmacy team. First-year apprentices are based in the dispensary, learning how to dispense a wide variety of medicines and communicate with patients and healthcare professionals. They also spend time in stores to ensure wards have adequate supplies of medicines.
Second-year apprentices expand their work, including counselling patients about their medicines, checking dispensed medicines, and spending time on the wards gathering information about medicines on admission. Some time is spent in Medicines Information, handling queries from patients, carers, and healthcare professionals.
One day each week is dedicated to lessons, with an additional half-day for study. The role of pharmacy technicians is evolving with increasing complexity, offering various career paths in primary, secondary, and community care.
Completion of the apprenticeship allows successful candidates to apply for professional registration as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
