The main duties of this role is to provide 1:8 Consultant on call cover enabling senior decision making and support for the Speciality Doctors within Paediatrics and SCBU, whilst also providing support to the Paediatric Emergency Department. When not providing on call provision the consultant will be working closely with the Paediatric outpatients team to see and review new and follow up patients in clinic. The post holder will work within Paediatrics providing medical care for children and youngpeople up to the age of 18yrs. The Paediatric department is made up of the Childrens Ward, the Paediatric Assessment Unit and the Children’s Day ward. The Children’s Ward has 10 beds, including one Higher Dependency bed, and co‑located next to the inpatient ward is a 3‑beded Paediatric Assessment Unit. The day unit has 6 beds which are used for day case surgical procedures as well as food challenges and other day case procedures. There are excellent facilities within the department, including a large playroom shared by all three areas, where activities are overseen by our play therapist.
