Early Reading Intervention Assistant – Newcastle
Location: Newcastle (NE2), Tyne and Wear
Contract: Full-time or part-time (term time only)
Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: £540-580 per week
Do you have a passion for early reading and phonics? Are you confident in delivering Read Write Inc. sessions and supporting young learners to reach their full potential? We’re looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Early Reading Intervention Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Newcastle, helping pupils develop essential early literacy skills.
About the Role
As an Early Reading Intervention Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting children who need extra help to develop their phonics knowledge and reading confidence.
You will:
* Deliver targeted catch-up sessions using the Read Write Inc. Phonics programme.
* Support Year 1 pupils at risk of not meeting the expected standard in the Phonics Screening Check.
* Work with Year 2 pupils who are required to resit the phonics assessment.
* Track and record pupil progress, providing regular feedback to class teachers and the phonics lead.
* Create a positive, nurturing environment where every child feels motivated to succeed.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
* Experience delivering or supporting the Read Write Inc. phonics programme.
* A solid understanding of early reading development and phonics instruction.
* Experience working with KS1 pupils in small groups or one-to-one.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* A proactive, patient, and supportive approach to learning.
* An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
A teaching assistant qualification (Level 2 or above) or equivalent experience is desirable.
