About the Role
We are looking for a CNC Machinist Specialist Turner who will set, operate and maintain high‑precision CNC Turning machines in a fast‑paced, R&D‑oriented shop.
The ideal candidate will bring advanced turning expertise while also being comfortable on multi‑axis milling centres. They will design machining processes, select and optimize tooling, write G‑code, and oversee production of high‑value, low‑volume parts and one‑offs. Participates in daily shop briefings to discuss objectives, issues, and improvement ideas. The role includes mentoring apprentices, collaborating closely with engineering and tooling suppliers, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Required skills, qualifications and experience
1. Working within a machine shop environment on 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machining centres using Heidenheim and Fanuc controls
2. Editing CNC programs, set fixtures and tooling, proving out and operating CNC multi-axis machines to produce R and D and production component parts.
3. Making work offset, tooling and program adjustments as required.
4. Working to specifications, procedures and engineering drawings.
5. Inspecting produced parts using various measuring instruments and hand gauges and interprets CMM inspection results.
6. Supporting the development of machining processes and tooling/fixture design.
7. Liaising with engineering to improve machining methods.
8. Uses problem solving techniques to solve machining and process related issues.
9. Prioritising workload to meet deliverable commitment timelines. Experience of 6 S and lean manufacturing tools and techniques.
Desired Skills
10. Experience and / or transferable skills to support Milling operations
11. Creating and refining machining strategies for R&D, prototype, and low‑volume production parts.
12. Producing accurate work instructions, process delineations, and change‑order documentation.
13. Implementing corrective action plans and track the effectiveness of process changes.
14. Coordinating with production planners to balance volume and turnaround requirements
