We have anexciting opportunity to join our friendly team at Armley Medical Practice.

We are anexpanding inner city training practice of over 17,000 patients, using EMIS as our clinical system.

We are looking for a salaried GP to join our team which currently consists of 5 partners, 6 salaried GPs, an ANP, 4 practice nurses, 3 health care assistants and a frailty practice nurse.


Main duties of the job

The postholder will deal with a wide range of health needs in primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

We are looking for a 6 sessional GP to cover 8am 6.30pm (late finishes on a rotabasis) on fixed days.

We operate morning and afternoon surgeries with a mix of telephone and face to face appointments and home visits when necessary. We are a low visiting practice and are supported in this by our frailty team.

GPs are responsible for their own admin, paperwork and review of results as well as supporting when needed to cover for colleagues on annual leave or sickness. We currently have a doctor on-call morning and afternoon with a second doctor to support.

We have regular clinical meetings and training on Target afternoons, as well as a daily informal doctors meeting for support and the opportunity to discuss cases and ask questions.

There is an opportunity to develop areas of interest if needed by and beneficial to the practice.

We offer our patients a wide range of services to support their physical and mental health needs. We work closely with 2 other practices in LS12 as part of the Armley Primary Care Network and employ a range of additional staff who work across the 3 practices, including physiotherapists, dieticians and pharmacists.

We are a busy, forward thinking training practice (both medical students and GP trainees, several of whom have stayed with us) and pride ourselves on delivering excellent patient care and supporting the community.


Job responsibilities

A variety of duties including face to face and telephone consultations, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

Assessing the health needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.

Providing health education and signposting.

Referring to other care providers as appropriate.

Recording clear, contemporaneous consultation notes.

Collecting data for audit purposes.

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.

Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary.

In general the postholder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other responsibilities within the organisation

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies / guidelines eg prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.

A commitment to lifelong learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.

Contributing to evaluation / audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.

Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies where appropriate.

Information Governance

The key principles of Information Governance must be read and adhered to at all times and the Information Governance binder read on an annual basis.

Health and Safety

The practice Health and Safety policy must be adhered to at all times.

The postholder will support the equality, diversity and right of patients, carers and colleagues and adhere to the practice policy at all times.

In addition to maintaining continued education through attendance at any courses/study days necessary to ensure professional development requirements are met, the postholder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment including:

* Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance; demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.

The postholder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and strive to:

* Communicate effectively with other team members.
* Communicate effectively with patients and carers.
* Recognise people's needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.
Contribution to the implementation of services:

The postholder will:

* Apply practice policies, standards and guidance.
* Participate in audit where appropriate.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Full GP qualification.
* GMC Registered with a license to practice.
* Experience with Emis would be beneficial but not essential.
