Overview
The post will be based in Ystrad Mynach, within the Medical Directorate, providing support for General Medicine, front‑door emergency care, Movement Disorder and general geriatric care to inpatients managing inpatient beds.
Specialist Grade doctors will work autonomously within the ABEU autonomous practice policy, using a high level of specialist knowledge and expertise. Facilities such as office accommodation, secretarial support and full IT facilities will be provided.
The number of SPA's may vary with agreement and an increase would accompany additional duties.

Responsibilities
* Work collaboratively with Consultant colleagues in the development of services in Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr.
* Provide effective clinical leadership.
* Sustain and develop teaching and research to support service development.
* Adhere to Health Board procedures, operating policies and contractual requirements.
* Deliver and actively participate in the front‑door service (Monday to Friday) on a pro‑rota basis and support general medical take during normal working hours.
* Provide delivery of the Movement Disorder service for Caerphilly locality (inpatient and outpatient) and support a 7‑day service.
* Participate in senior decision‑making, post‑take ward rounds, and provide senior advice to the staff in the Medical Assessment Unit during sessions.
* Share responsibility for inpatient general medicine with consultant colleagues.
* Run general and specialty outpatient clinics.
* Provide care for elderly and acute geriatric patients on ward 3.2 (14 patients) with multidisciplinary team working.
* Lead ward rounds, board rounds and MDTs during clinical ward presence.
* Maintain professional competence and comply with supervision and professional body requirements.
* Adhere to the RCP guideline for a 30‑minute afternoon rest during 8:00–16:00 sessions.
On‑Call & Shift Pattern
* Supported by an on‑call team including a StR/Senior clinical fellow and FY2/GPVTs, with additional support during daylight and night shifts.
* Morning post‑take ward rounds start at 8:00 am; the Same‑Day Emergency Care unit runs 8:00–19:00 Monday to Friday.
* The appointed speciality doctor will receive 1.6 SPA sessions (based on a 10‑session job) and 0.5 admin sessions as part of the 8 core sessions, with regular review of the job plan for professional development and CPD activities.
Teaching and Training
* Improve training opportunities in line with national and local recommendations.
* Participate in the undergraduate teaching programme.
* Assist and participate in postgraduate training for F1s, F2s, SpRs, STs and other staff.
* Act as Educational Supervisor to junior and middle‑grade staff, with the opportunity to take a formal role within HEIW.
