General Surgery Advert

Performance and Operations Manager – Band 5, 37.5hrs per week – Fixed Term 12 months

The Surgery Management team is looking to recruit a Performance and Operations Manager to work with the specialty of General Surgery. The post holder will work 37.5 hours per week and will assist the Specialty Manager, General Surgery with performance management and service improvement.

This varied and interesting role requires excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. A flexible approach is essential, as is self-motivation and the ability to work under pressure, prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines. Knowledge of Referral to Treatment pathways and targets, as well as service improvement techniques, would be advantageous.

You will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be committed to providing high-quality service to patients and hospital staff, including senior clinicians. A positive attitude and professional approach are essential, along with the ability to multitask and manage your own caseload in this dynamic and challenging role.

Main Duties and Responsibilities


Operational Management

* To have delegated responsibility for achieving key divisional and organisational targets, such as the 18-week Referral to Treatment (RTT) patient pathway, and ensuring compliance with Trust policies related to patient care, including the Patient Access Policy.
* To communicate performance against the 18-week RTT pathway at meetings and liaise with the General Surgery administration team, RTT team, Gastroenterology Department, and Inpatient and Outpatient Booking offices to coordinate resources for effective service delivery.
* To train administrative and professional staff in RTT rules and procedures to enhance understanding and adherence to best practices.
* To attend weekly performance meetings, providing accurate and clear information regarding key targets and standards.
* To act as a key contact for troubleshooting issues that may hinder timely patient care, liaising with clinical and nursing colleagues as needed, and escalating complex issues to the Specialty Manager when appropriate.
