Job Title: SEMH Learning Support Assistant – Newcastle

We’re searching for a compassionate and resilient SEMH Learning Support Assistant to support young people in secondary schools across Newcastle. These pupils need more than academic help — they need someone calm, patient, and understanding who can help them navigate both learning and life.
What you’ll be doing:
* Supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs
* Providing 1:1 support and small group interventions
* Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
* Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
* Helping to create a safe, structured, and supportive environment
We’re looking for someone who:
* Has experience working with young people with SEMH needs (schools, PRUs, youth work or care all count)
* Can stay calm under pressure and use de-escalation strategies effectively
* Brings empathy, resilience, and a sense of humour to the role
* Wants to see every student succeed, no matter the barriers

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
