A secondary school in Maidenhead is seeking a passionate graduate to work as a Learning Support Assistant, supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to improve their engagement, communication, and academic progress.
This role includes working with non-verbal students and those with additional communication needs, providing a unique opportunity to develop specialist skills highly valued in psychology and education careers.

The Role: Learning Support Assistant (SEN, SEMH & Communication Needs)
You will support students with a range of needs, including:
1. Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs
2. Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
3. Non-verbal or limited verbal communication
4. Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN)
5. Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
6. Anxiety, low mood, and emotionally driven behaviour
7. SEN or undiagnosed additional needs
8. Barriers to attendance, engagement, and learning
You will work closely with SENCOs, therapists, and teaching staff to help students regulate emotions, communicate effectively, and access learning in a structured, supportive environment.

Your Experience Will Include
9. 1:1 and small-group support for SEN and vulnerable pupils
10. Working with non-verbal students using alternative communication methods (e.g. visual aids, gestures, PECS)
11. Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
12. Assisting students with autism and communication needs
13. Implementing personalised support and behaviour strategies
14. Using trauma-informed and restorative approaches
15. Supporting learning both inside and outside the classroom
16. Building strong relationships with disengaged learners
17. Gaining hands-on safeguarding and pastoral experience
