Advanced Technologist – Structures, Manufacturing & Materials.
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time.
Location: London (Hybrid); Travel: As required.
Reporting to: Head of Technology – Structures, Manufacturing & Materials.
This role is part of the Technology Team which is core to ATI’s activities. The team develops an ambitious technology strategy, executes the strategy through stimulation and assessment of a portfolio of funded projects, challenges and enhances the sector through thought leadership, and works to enhance ATI capability and influence that ultimately adds value for the UK economy and sector.
We are looking for a highly capable Technologist to join our Aerospace Technology team up to Advanced Technologist level.
Responsibilities
- Build technical capabilities, work with external networks and lead work to define the UK’s strategic direction for priority topics.
- Support ATI technology portfolio analysis and provide insight into strategic technology areas.
- Develop technical capabilities that impact the technology strategy and influence stakeholders (tier one OEMs, supply chains, SME technology providers, research specialists and academia).
- Encourage the creation of consortia, that with joint external funding, drive research and technology programmes implementing the Aerospace Technology Strategy.
- Lead key strategic technical areas in the Structures, Manufacturing and Materials team and serve as main point of contact within the organisation.
- Lead review of project proposals, provide feedback to stakeholders and recommend funding in partnership with UK Government departments and agencies.
- Lead mission‑critical external workshops and working groups, supporting development of roadmaps that form the basis for the technology strategy.
- Champion aerospace materials and manufacturing, act as an agent of transformation in research and technology delivery.

Qualifications
Required experience in one or more of the following technologies:
- Material development and qualification (composites, metallics, coatings & treatments)
- Manufacturing, assembly & inspection
- Industry 4.0
- Aerostructure design and development
- Structural testing
Broad understanding of systems engineering principles, aerospace design and manufacturing processes throughout the product lifecycle is beneficial.
Competency in analytical modelling tools is required; prior ATI modelling toolset experience not required.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Engineering, physical sciences or mathematics graduate, with industrial experience in engineering, R&D or manufacturing, including new product introduction or industrialisation of new products or processes. Ideally recently or currently engaged in a technical capacity within the aerospace sector or with a research function.
Right to work in the UK is required.
