Company Description

HyFlux LTD is a clean aviation technology company developing superconducting cryogenic electric motors to transform aircraft propulsion.

Our mission is to pioneer cryogenic electric propulsion solutions that radically improve aircraft performance, efficiency, and environmental impact, leading to true zero emissions propulsion.

Our vision is to become a global leader in sustainable aerospace propulsion, delivering transformational technology with measurable impact for investors, partners, and the planet.

We have recently been awarded a grant is excess of £1 million from the UK’s Aerospace Technology Institute and are now seeking an Electromagnetic Systems Design Engineer to expand our team to deliver this project and develop our technology.

Key responsibilities

· Lead the electromagnetic design and analysis of electric motors and generators from initial requirements definition through conceptual design, detailed analysis, testing, and verification phases.

· Conduct engineering analysis and apply first-principle calculations to support and validate electromagnetic designs, including peer-reviewed assessments.

· Drive the selection of electrical machine types and topologies, including sizing, to meet high-level system requirements.

· Support technical engagements with clients during Requests for Information (RFIs), ongoing program development, and other business development initiatives.

· Lead and actively participate in hands-on development activities, including prototyping of electromagnetic materials and novel design concepts within workshop environments.

· Collaborate with suppliers and partners throughout the design and development lifecycle of electric propulsion systems.

· Advance the organisation’s capabilities in electromagnetic simulation and support test activities to ensure comprehensive verification and validation of system performance.

· Identify and pursue opportunities for technical innovation, including the development of intellectual property (IP), technical publications, and conference contributions.

· Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations to support design reviews, technical readiness level (TRL) assessments, and project milestones.

· Contribute to structured technical planning across design office and workshop activities in close coordination with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Ensure adherence to all relevant aerospace industry regulations and standards, including but not limited to FAA, EASA, and AS9100.

This is a full-time on-site role for an Electromagnetic Systems Design Engineer, located in Swansea. The engineer will be tasked with designing and developing systems, conducting systems engineering tasks, and working on system architecture. Daily responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing to the development of superconducting electric motors. The role will require a hands-on approach and active involvement in the entire design and development process.

Required Qualifications & Experience

· Bachelors or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.

· Proven experience in the electromagnetic design of electric machines.

· Proficient in the use of electromagnetic and thermal simulation tools such as COMSOL, Simcenter, ANSYS Maxwell, and Motor-CAD.

· Strong foundation in electromagnetic theory and engineering principles, including the ability to perform and validate first-principle calculations.

· Solid understanding of motor control systems and power electronics, and their integration with electrical machines.

· Knowledge of material properties and their implications for electric machine design and performance.

· Experience with Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and other safety-critical engineering methodologies.

* Demonstrated expertise in designing various high-performance electrical machine topologies, such as Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSM), Induction Machines (IM), and Synchronous Reluctance Machines (SynR), particularly for traction or propulsion applications.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

· Experience in the design and analysis of electromagnetic components for cryogenic environments.

* Solid understanding of the mechanical design principles underlying electric machines.
* Experience in the development of superconducting electrical machines.
* Familiarity with systems engineering methodologies for the development of complex systems.
* Practical experience in the simulation of vibration, failure conditions, fault tolerance, and Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) in electric machines.

Experience of electromagnetic design of electric machines, especially for high performance traction/propulsion applications.

What we offer

· Competitive salary based on experience.

· 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays.

· Company pension scheme.

· Flexible working hours.

· Professional development opportunities and training support.
