Overview

We are looking for an experienced, motivated, forward‑thinking ODP/Registered Nurse to work in our Surgical Theatres, Brachytherapy and Proton departments. The oncology theatre suite specialises in colorectal, plastic, urology and gynaecology, brachytherapy surgery, Robotic and a separate proton treatment unit, which specialises in paediatric anaesthesia.

Responsibilities

* Participate as a member of the Anaesthetic/Recovery Theatre team with extensive knowledge in peri-operative patient care.
* Demonstrate high standards of individual patient care with a commitment to evidence-based practice.
* Care for the peri-operative patient, including assessment, planning and evaluation of care programs.
* Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care and promote a team approach.
* Develop and maintain effective communication between all clinical staff within the multi-disciplinary team.
* Ensure proficiency with all medical equipment in accordance with the Trust policy.
* Participate in the audit and evaluation of clinical practice and surgical products to promote quality care; work with senior colleagues to develop practice strategies based on audit findings.
* Encourage and participate in initiatives to enhance quality care; support change management and professional development.
* Promote a professional development environment and take responsibility for own learning.
* Involve in the teaching and assessment of learners, including medical students and allied professions; monitor learners’ progress and practical skills.
* Act as a clinical role model and ensure prescribed drugs and treatments are given correctly in line with Trust policy, including handling of controlled drugs.
* Provide patient- and relative-focused support and maintain safe use and management of equipment and supplies.
* Assist in maintaining cleanliness and order in the clinical area; maintain access to and records in computerised patient records; operate the scan track system after training to track/trace medical devices.
* Demonstrate mandatory competencies and participate in on-call duties as part of the department rota (emergency cover out of hours, weekends and bank holidays).


Qualifications

* Current registered practitioner (RN with NMC registration) or ODP.
* Anaesthetic qualification and recovery experience is essential.
* Evidence of continuing professional development; highly motivated, well-organised with good communication skills and the ability to work on own initiative.
* Teaching/assessing skills are desirable; paediatric experience is desirable.
* Ability to work 37.5 hours, 4 or 5 days flexibly over 6 days (Monday to Saturday) with a commitment to out-of-hours on call.
