Job overview
Experienced, highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Cancer Information Team and work collaboratively within the Cancer Information service. Full‑time (37.5 hrs per week) with a team‑building focus. Proactive, strategic vision for service transformation and to lead and develop the cancer information team.
Roles will provide day‑to‑day leadership, line management of a deputy information nurse, and act as an independent clinical resource for patients, carers and health care professionals.
Main duties of the job
• Provide clinical leadership and management support to the Cancer Information team and work with the clinical lead to build a highly motivated and specialist knowledge team.
• Act as an independent clinical resource for patients, carers and health care professionals with regard to support for those affected by cancer.
• Work collaboratively with the Personalised Care Lead to support delivery of the HOPE course and other supportive options for patients at the end of treatment (Living with and beyond Cancer).
• Manage patient queries through a drop‑in, phone and email service; conduct information assessments; provide holistic assessment skills and appropriate signposting and referrals.
• Participate in meetings and training on both sites (Guy's Cancer Centre & Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup).

Dimbleby Cancer Care is an information and support service based at Guy's Cancer Centre, London and at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup. It provides cancer information, psychological support, benefits advice and complementary therapies to patients and carers. The service operates Monday‑Friday.

Professional / Statutory Registration
* Nurse: RN1 on the NMC register.
Qualifications / Education
* BSc/1st degree – Registered Nurse
* Professional knowledge acquired at degree level supplemented by specialist training, experience and short courses to Masters level equivalent
* Post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or equivalent post qualification experience
* Leadership Course or demonstrated previous team leadership experience
* Working towards a MSc (or have one)
* Extensive experience of working autonomously at an advanced level with oncology, haematology and surgical oncology services delivering effective patient‑focused care
* Proven evidence of management and leadership in leading a team
* Experience of delivering patient advocacy, audit, research & evidence‑based care
* Experience of working with significant others (e.g. family, partners) of people with cancer
* Experience of working in an information and support setting; knowledge of support services and/or benefits
* Experience of working with parents affected by cancer and how to talk with children about cancer
* Experience of working with vulnerable and excluded groups; ethnically rich and diverse patient group; community and primary care professionals in cancer
Skills / Knowledge / Ability
* Previous experience of managing, leading and developing staff
* Advanced clinical, managerial and leadership skills
* Proven listening / counselling skills with ability to manage complex situations and deliver sensitive outcomes
* Evidence of teaching skills
* Ability to clinically lead and influence staff
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
* Sound knowledge of current issues in the profession and practice of nursing
* Time management and organisation skills
* Ability to conduct & evaluate own projects successfully
* Knowledge of current clinical & nursing/AHP research; ability to carry out audit and research
* IT skills
* Knowledge of safeguarding concerns and ability to respond appropriately
* Ability to interpret and analyse complex data and findings
* Undertaken clinical & nursing research; Level 2 training and Level 2 supervision; understanding and managing suicide risk in a compassionate & professional manner
