Job Summary
The Technical Director will take overall responsibility for all engineering issues and projects. Be responsible for developing and implementing specific procedures and engineering standards across the business, taking regard of health and safety, quality and the environment and international and British Standards;
Duties
* Ensure the health, safety and welfare of all employees.
* Provide adequate resources to projects and manage overall engineering budgets and costs.
* Ensure all engineering projects, initiatives and processes are in conformance with established policies and objectives.
* Utilise the best practice engineering methods and provides expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives.
* Incorporate components, materials and tools that result in cost-effective quality output.
* Be responsible for ensuring that adequate records are kept for staff concerning safety and engineering issues.
* Ensure that all personnel receive adequate training and instruction relevant to the tasks they perform.
* Arrange for audits of site work to be carried out on a predetermined basis.
* Chair meetings to review engineering aspects and quality performance, accidents, changes to standards.
* Set division budgets and targets.
* Appoint a deputy to fulfil this role in the event of absence.
* Act as deputy for the managing director in their absence and as for the implementation of the Business Continuity Plan.
Qualifications
* Knowledge of relevant railway geography and network capability
* Have at least 5 years of managerial experience at a senior level
* Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline
* Knowledge of RISQS and Company Management System
* Able to work under pressure within a continuous planning process
* Good communication skills and a customer-focussed approach
