Position Role: The DTSO is responsible for supporting the TSO in ensuring the training facilities allocated in support of Armoured Vehicle Training (Driver Training Area (DTA)), Small Uncrewed Aerial Systems (sUAS) training and Fieldcraft Training Areas (FTA) are safe to use. The specific duties of the DTSO may vary by location within BTA, due to site-specific requirements, however, they must be able to achieve an assessment level of Practitioner/Expert of the Defence DTA/FTA Framework Competencies in the following areas: Competence 1 - Development and application of appropriate regulation. Competence 2 - DTA/FTA Maintenance. Competence 3 - DTA/FTA Inspection. Competence 4 - DTA/FTA Compliance and Assurance. Responsibilities: The post holder is responsible for day-to-day delivery of a safe training environment for authorised users, under the direction of the Training Safety Officer (TSO), in order to support the endorsed and contingent training requirements of Defence. The post holder is responsible for ensuring that blank fire exercises and manoeuvre training are conducted in accordance with BTA Standing Orders. The post holder will comply with Joint Service Publication DSA 03 OME Safety and apply ‘safe place’ in accordance with JSP 375 on the training estate at all times and assist in the management of ordnance, munitions and explosives (OME) The post holder must have an understanding of the needs of the user and be prepared to provide appropriate advice and guidance to the user on the use of the safe training place to assist the user in getting maximum training benefit, whilst also ensuring optimal usage of the training estate. Help to ensure that the facilities allocated are safe for use and that any infrastructure defects are reported, tracked and actioned. Help to maintain DTA and FTA documentation; site specific Risk Assessments and DTA/FTA Standing Orders (SOs). Support the production of a Daily Safety Summary and ensure this is communicated to the user. Conduct and support all mandatory DTA/FTA training area inspections. Support the coordination of safety and deconfliction by managing users’ aspirations and assisting in the management of bids and allocations for Bovington Training Area. Support the monthly Training Estate Support Contract (TESC), Site Infrastructure Monthly Meetings, deputising for TSO when required. Support the completion of Gross Error Checks through checking of Safe Activity Assurance Forms (SAAF) including main event list and sketch maps (FTAs). Assist in the co-ordination of the rural estate management of Bovington Training Area and the maintenance & development of the military training facilities. Assist in ensuring the safe access and safety of authorised civilians and livestock from the hazards associated with or resulting from all training activities. Ensure that all reasonable precautions are taken to safeguard the public both inside and outside the DTA/FTA boundary. Provide support in Air Safety Management (ASM) issues or enquiries. Report accidents and incidents, including incursions and near misses, on the estate in accordance with regulations and policy. Support liaison with the Emergency Services to conduct/record annual incident/accident practice drills. Support maintenance of the ecological and environmental sustainability of the estate consistent with environmental regulations and policy. Domestic Considerations: Post Holder to live within 40 Mins of the training area during the working week This appointment would suite a substantive or acting Warrant Officer who has a good knowledge of the training environment with particular focus on AV Driver/Commander training.
