About the Role
We are seeking a Project Engineer – Water to support the delivery of water infrastructure projects across Ireland, the UK, and internationally, with a particular focus on utility clients, and opportunities to contribute to projects across a wider portfolio depending on business needs and individual interest.
The role involves contributing to and progressing projects from initial brief through to completion, supporting the delivery of projects on programme, within budget, and to the required technical and quality standards. The successful candidate will work closely with Senior Engineers, Project Managers, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions while continuing to develop their technical and project management capabilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Support the delivery of water infrastructure projects from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, procurement, construction, and completion, ensuring delivery to programme, budget, and quality requirements.
* Preparation of Feasibility Studies, Route and Site Selections, and Concept Design Reports.
* Preparation of Outline and Detailed Designs, including drawings, calculations, and technical reports.
* Prepare Technical Specifications and Contract Documents for main works and investigation contracts.
* Support Tender Evaluation and Procurement processes.
* Assist in the preparation of documentation required for statutory approvals, including planning permissions, land acquisition, and wayleaves.
* Support construction stage contract administration, including site inspections and compliance monitoring.
* Assist in the development of project plans, including programme scheduling, budgets, and resource planning.
* Coordinate with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to support effective project delivery.
* Contribute to technical delivery on assigned projects, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, specifications, and contractual requirements.
* Attend client, stakeholder, and technical meetings and contribute to project discussions in consultation with senior staff.
* Prepare technical reports, designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications for review by senior engineers.
* Assist with project cost tracking, programme monitoring, and change management activities.
* Identify project risks and support the implementation of mitigation measures.
* Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental, planning, and other technical disciplines.
* Maintain effective communication on project progress, risks, and technical matters internally and with clients.
* Perform site visits and inspections to monitor project progress, quality, and adherence to specifications.
* Support and collaborate with junior team members while continuing to develop technical expertise and professional competencies.
* Undertake additional duties as required to support project delivery and reflect the evolving needs of the business.
Key Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
* 5 years’ experience in water engineering, including aspects of feasibility studies, detailed design, procurement, and/or construction contract administration.
* Experience in the design and delivery of water infrastructure projects such as treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines, and water networks.
* Experience working with Uisce Éireann and/or water utility companies in the UK and Ireland is desirable.
* Strong technical knowledge of water engineering principles, standards, regulations, and industry best practice.
* Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet project milestones.
* Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively in client-facing environments.
* Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams and contributing to integrated project delivery.
* Working toward professional chartership (e.g., Engineers Ireland or equivalent) is desirable.
* Full clean driving license essential, with flexibility to travel regularly to project sites as required.
