Job Summary
We are looking for a dedicated Healthcare Support Worker to join our team on Ward 12 – Elective Surgery at Bournemouth Hospital. The successful candidate will work both day and night shifts on a rota that includes weekdays, weekends and bank holidays. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, you will support patients across a wide range of surgical specialities in a busy 20‑bed elective general surgical ward.

Person Specification
Essential
 * Experience of working in a team under appropriate supervision
 * Able to demonstrate an understanding of principles of effective customer care
 * Good basic hygiene skills (e.g. food handling, hand washing)
 * Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to a registered care professional
 * Understanding of the importance of the promotion of health and well‑being (Making Every Contact Count)
 * Able to listen to advice from colleagues, agree a plan of action and implement it
 * Good standard of general education including literacy and numeracy
 * Courteous, respectful and helpful at all times
 * Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team
 * Manages stress levels effectively
 * Able to work in a busy environment and manage own workload
 * Clear and effective communication skills
 * Ability to follow clear instructions and give feedback to senior staff
 * IT literate
Desirable
 * Previous experience of working within a care environment/NHS
 * Experience of working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team
 * Experience of working with the public
 * NVQ Level 2 in care or customer services
 * Understanding of basic physiology, e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance, nutritional requirements etc.
 * Manual handling of patients using lifting aids
