Applications are invited for a substantive post for the position of Consultant in Elderly Medicine.
Qualifications
Consultant with a specialist interest in acute geriatrics.
Responsibilities
* Regular ward rounds on the inpatient frailty ward, supporting junior doctors and the multidisciplinary team.
* Attend daily MDTs.
* Named consultant for 14 inpatients plus outliers (indicative figures 0 to 4 patients; 300-350 patient reviews per month).
* Run general elderly clinic and a subspecialty clinic (movement disorders, falls, stroke or community, depending on candidate interest). The clinic involves 8 new patients plus 32 reviews per month during a weekly 3‑hour session.
* Provide "front door" acute geriatrician sessions: support the emergency department, rapid response team and acute physicians with specialist in-reach providing early advice and input into care and management plans for frail elderly in the acute setting.
* Supervise junior doctors.
* Attend and provide input into speciality and departmental meetings.
* Support acute frailty services directly or via other subspecialty support.
* Take on a significant educational role within the Medical Education department.
