Overview
The Analytics Engineer will lead and manage a technical Delivery team, within the wider Informatics team. The Delivery team provide a data modelling and visual analytics service delivering well‑designed and innovative products, such as dashboards and reports, aligned to the organisational strategic aim and goals agreed within the governance framework. Products will deliver value by providing analytics, insights and visualisations through the Trust’s dashboarding solution (Power BI). Each product developed will need both user and technical documentation, including the completion of design templates, change control requests, testing plans and results.

About the team
The informatics team consists of about 18 staff, covering Requirements, Assurance, Delivery and Engineering. Working closely with team colleagues, e.g. Informatics Business Partners, Analytics Developers, Data Engineers and others, the post holder will use their technical skills to undertake data analyses, as well as ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to a high standard. The postholder will ensure that Informatics work directly supports improved patient outcomes and operational efficiency. The postholder will support and respond to the Trust’s goals for clinical service quality improvement and optimisation, performance, and contract management.
About the location
The Digital Services Informatics team is based at Jeanette Wallace House, in-between Bromley and Croydon. The Trust headquarters is located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2). We also provide services and operate across other locations, such as London boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; and substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Lambeth, Greenwich and Wandsworth.
Data Analysis & Reporting
* Lead a technical team to plan, design, develop, implement and deliver reports and other visual analytics to a high standard, delivering business value, whilst adhering to local standards and policies.
* Shape and develop the team’s data visualisation capabilities, delivering reports and dashboards to meet business requirements.
* Provide technical blueprints and user guides for Reports, Dashboards, statistical/epidemiological analysis tools, databases, cubes & design patterns. These materials need to be presented to and communicated across the organisation in a variety of formats and methods meeting both the technical and business needs and abilities of staff.
* Ensure that all outputs and products produced by the Informatics team are fully assured and sustainable.
Programme / Project Coordination
* Contribute, develop, implement and lead aspects of the Strategic Analytical and Visualisation programme to ensure improved capabilities are delivered, which can be utilised by stakeholders (including clinical services, and Trust Leadership).
* Manage and communicate the agreed Delivery Roadmap which is aligned to the strategic vision outlined in the Data Transformation Programme.
* Develop and implement the strategic direction of the team, leading on the planning, design, organising and presentation of enterprise information, adopting change management practices.
* Evaluate and propose alternative technical approaches to delivering new services.
* Seek service innovation opportunities and review emerging informatics / knowledge management technologies to ensure value and good return on investment.
Team Management
* The post holder may have line management and personal development responsibility for members of staff within the Analytics and Visualisation team.
* Oversee the management of technical staff within the team. Develop, motivate, and manage staff, providing appropriate leadership, support, and managing day to day work assigned. Promote equality, diversity & inclusion.
* Direct, control and motivate staff to deliver an effective and efficient service.
* Conduct routine supervision and appraisals for all team members, providing opportunities for learning and self‑development. Perform line management duties.
* Recruit technical staff for the team, and drawing in the skills and resources present elsewhere in the organisation as required.
Governance & Assurance
* Responsible for the technical definition of all development requests ensuring alignment to business requirements documentation.
* Develop and implement metadata management throughout the operations of Informatics and publish documents to enable business analysts to conduct their roles.
* Assist in identifying any improvements to systems and processes within the organisation, relating to contract, performance, finance, IT functions, suggesting solutions and working with other departments to implement these, where appropriate.
* Responsible for the development of policies and procedures to ensure that all developments, both processes and outputs, meet best practice.
Stakeholder Engagement
* Establish strong liaison with services to support clinical engagement and leadership in improving quality, efficiency and productivity.
* Influence and produce executive ideas that may shape and benefit the organisation as a whole; demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills to undertake change management where required.
* Engage and liaise with stakeholders who require information to manage their services, understand and challenge their business model & goals. Document the requirements and develop the plan to implement them and ensure the stakeholder need is met.

* The post-holder will work with a degree of autonomy, guided by defined programme objectives and policies. They will be expected to plan and prioritise their own workload, escalating complex issues as appropriate.

* Frequent use of IT systems requiring concentration and attention to detail.
* Regular requirement to analyse complex data and information.
* Exposure to emotionally challenging subject matter when working with mental health service data.
