ABOUT YOU This role would suit a scientist with experience in protein, biologics or biophysical characterisation who is looking to further develop their expertise within a collaborative and growing team. You will bring a strong scientific foundation, an interest in analytical problem-solving, and the ability to contribute to a range of complex projects, with support to develop additional techniques where needed. Required skills and experience: BSc, MSc or PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline Experience in protein, biologics or biophysical characterisation Experience of method development, optimisation or validation Experience working in a GxP-regulated laboratory environment (GMP, GLP or similar) Experience working with large molecules and proteins Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and apply scientific thinking Good IT, numeracy, and data interpretation skills Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage with colleagues and contribute to client-facing projects Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet timelines Experience in any of the following areas would be advantageous (but not essential): Spectroscopic techniques (e.g. Circular Dichroism, FTIR) Thermal characterisation techniques, including Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), TGA and thermal transition analysis c-IEF, CE-SDS, SDS-PAGE Analytical Ultra Centrifuge (AUC) Oligonucleotide and/or mRNA analysis ELISA and plate-based residual impurity assays We also welcome applicants from related analytical or protein characterisation backgrounds who are looking to develop into biophysical characterisation. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY On a daily basis, you will work as a key member of the Biophysical Characterisation team, delivering high-quality analytical services to pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical clients. The role involves working across projects of varying scale, scope and complexity, with opportunities to apply specialist knowledge, develop new techniques, and gain exposure to a wide range of biopharmaceutical products and client projects. Key activities: Perform method development, optimisation and validation using a range of biophysical characterisation techniques Plan, execute and interpret analytical work, with increasing autonomy as experience develops Generate high-quality data, reports and technical documentation in line with regulatory requirements Deliver analytical services in accordance with GMP and GLP standards Ensure studies meet quality, regulatory and client expectations Troubleshoot analytical challenges and contribute to the development of effective solutions Communicate with clients on technical matters, including results interpretation and study support Support Business Development through technical input into quotations and proposals Demonstrate commercial awareness when planning and delivering analytical work Support the training and mentoring of junior colleagues where appropriate Collaborate proactively with colleagues across teams to ensure efficient project delivery All work will be carried out in accordance with Intertek procedures, regulatory standards, and safety requirements WHAT WE OFFER Join Intertek and become part of our global network of inspiring and entrepreneurial colleagues.
