Overview

Trainee High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapist on a one year fixed term training contract. The role includes a clinical placement with a high volume caseload and participation in the Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (PGDip CBT). The contract is 12 months; upon successful completion a permanent post will be available. Start date is approximately mid-January 2026 (date to be confirmed). Hybrid working with home and based at Shrewsbury (Severn Fields Health Village) or Telford (Hall Court), and travel within Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin locality as needed. Training posts are conditional on funding; number of spaces may change. Shortlisted applicants must attend a half‑day academic screening in September (university TBC). Responsibilities

* Two days per week at the University and three days of supervised clinical practice within the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin NHS Talking Therapies service.
* Progress to working with a high degree of autonomy with high volume caseloads, including video and face-to-face clinical work.
* Data collection, data management, analysis and note keeping as part of the role.
* Work within a busy team of Admin staff, PWPs, CBT Practitioners & Relational Therapists to serve Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.
* Engage in a CBT service for clients with a range of complex problems, using interpreters as needed and a commitment to equal opportunities.


Qualifications & Skills

* Essential qualifications include a recorded/registered/accredited qualification in Nursing (RNM / RNLD), Social Work, Art Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Counselling, Psychotherapeutic Counselling, or a Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical / Counselling Psychology; or a registered qualification in Educational Psychology, Health Psychology, or Forensic Psychology; or a qualification in Medicine (MBChB/MBBS) and the ability to meet BABCP KSA criteria for entry to the course, plus two years minimum after award of first training as per HEE guidance.
* Essential personal attributes: ability to work in a team, use clinical supervision for development, and willingness to travel to locations throughout the organisation.
* Desirable: experience working with diverse communities in multicultural settings.
* Essential skills: ability to evaluate training effects, communicate complex information clearly, and perform risk assessments within scope of practice.
* Essential experience: demonstrated work in mental health services and experience delivering evidence-based psychological therapies including CBT.
* Desirable experience: working in a service with agreed targets and demonstrated clinical outcomes.
