The Role
As an Associate Field Engineer, you will support the delivery of high-quality technical solutions across one or more technology domains.
Day-to-day, working under the close guidance of senior engineers and architects, you’ll contribute to operational tasks, documentation, and service improvements while developing your technical and professional capabilities
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of enterprise-grade solutions under the guidance of senior engineers
2. Perform basic troubleshooting and escalate complex issues appropriately
3. Support day-to-day operational tasks, including monitoring and routine maintenance
4. Contribute to the creation and maintenance of technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles
5. Support the collection and reporting of operational metrics and service performance data
6. Follow established security, performance, and operational standards
Essential experience of the Associate Field Engineer:
7. Foundational understanding of one or more technology domains (e.g., Infrastructure, Networking, Cloud, End User Computing
8. Awareness of ITIL principles and basic service management concepts
9. Exposure to scripting or automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash)
10. Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work as part of a team
11. Some experience in technical roles, such as internships, placements, or academic projects within IT or engineering environments
12. Exposure to enterprise systems, infrastructure, or support practices
Essential qualifications for the Associate Field Engineer:
13. Degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
14. Working towards or holding relevant industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco, AWS)
15. Full and Clean UK Driving License

This role is 37 hours per week based at Malvern. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
The Malvern facility is noted for its work in electronic warfare, surveillance and complex system integration, contributing significantly to the UK’s defence capabilities. Developing technologies for military and civilian applications, including sensors, communications and cyber security.
