HGV Mechanics are responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) to ensure they are safe, roadworthy, and compliant with regulations. The role involves diagnosing faults, carrying out preventative maintenance, and completing repairs efficiently. Experience with DAF trucks is desirable to support the company's fleet and deliver high-quality mechanical support.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
* Vehicle maintenance & repair: Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and repairs on HGVs, trailers, and associated equipment in line with company and manufacturer standards.
* DAF truck expertise: Use specialist knowledge and diagnostic tools to identify and repair issues specifically relating to DAF trucks.
* Fault diagnosis: Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, identifying solutions and completing repairs efficiently.
* Preventative maintenance: Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance checks to minimise breakdowns and ensure roadworthiness.
* MOT preparation: Prepare vehicles for MOT inspections and carry out pre-MOT checks to ensure compliance.
* Record keeping: Accurately complete service sheets, job cards, and defect reports in line with company procedures and legal requirements.
* Parts management: Identify required parts and liaise with the parts department to ensure repairs are completed on time.
* Health & safety compliance: Adhere to all workshop health & safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
* Quality standards: Ensure all work is carried out to the highest standard, meeting both legal and customer requirements.
* Breakdown support: Provide roadside assistance and breakdown cover when required, ensuring minimal downtime for vehicles.
* Tool & equipment maintenance: Ensure tools and workshop equipment are maintained and used correctly.
