Control Systems Engineer (Radio Communications / Airwave)
Location: London (Hybrid – home and office, approx. 2 days per week)
Salary: Up to £65,500 including allowances and on-call
Contract: Permanent | Full-time (37 hours per week)
A national organisation responsible for maintaining and developing mission-critical communications systems is looking for an experienced Control Systems Engineer to join their specialist operations technology team.
This is a hands-on, field-based role working with Airwave (TETRA), ICCS, and related control room and telephony systems that enable front-line teams to operate safely and effectively across the UK.
The Role
* Provide technical expertise and support across radio, telephony, and control room communications systems.
* Diagnose and resolve system faults, carry out coverage and signal testing, and maintain operational uptime.
* Configure, integrate, and maintain Airwave devices, antennas, and associated infrastructure.
* Work collaboratively with external partners, technology suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure consistent performance and compliance.
* Take part in an on-call rota providing out-of-hours technical support (approx. 2 in 5 weeks).
* Travel between London and regional sites as required (expenses covered).
About You
* Experienced in radio communications, Airwave/TETRA, or control room systems engineering.
* Strong understanding of RF principles, signal coverage, and system integration.
* Excellent fault-finding ability with a logical, methodical approach to problem solving.
* Confident working in live operational or safety-critical environments where reliability is paramount.
* Self-motivated and proactive, able to work independently or within a small, highly skilled team.
* Ideally qualified in ITIL Foundation and/or ICCS Administration, with a degree (or equivalent experience) in IT, Telecommunications, or Engineering.
* Must have lived in the UK for at least five years, with no cautions, convictions, or recent CCJs, and be eligible for security clearance (SC).
* A full UK driving licence is highly desirable.
