The Domestic Abuse Harmful Behaviour Case Manager is responsible for leading and implementing interventions aimed at addressing, changing, and disrupting harmful behaviour exhibited by perpetrators of domestic abuse. This role involves working with a caseload of individuals who engage in abusive behaviour to proactively facilitate and coordinate responses that include:
* Multi-agency actions to disrupt abusive behaviour
* Support to address additional needs that may hinder the change process
* Denial-focused behaviour change strategies
* Promotion of victim safety
The Case Manager will collaborate with partner agencies, develop intervention plans, provide ongoing support to achieve positive outcomes, and serve as an expert in responding to those who harm.
1. Interagency Work
Advocate, negotiate, and liaise with other professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies, and key stakeholders to maximise resources for risk reduction for victims and their children. Establish strong working relationships with partner agencies such as Children’s Social Care, Police, Probation, and Health. Work closely with Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVAs) supporting partners, ex-partners, family members of service users, and manage risk by developing intervention plans. Share information when potential risks are identified, especially regarding previously unknown victims. Refer cases to the Domestic Abuse Hub/Marac as appropriate. Collaborate with external organisations to access additional support services, such as counselling or substance use treatment.
2. Direct Work with Clients
Conduct regular risk and needs assessments to determine individual client needs and construct or revise Care Plans. Ensure clients understand that services will hold them accountable for continued harmful behaviour. Use motivational interviewing and evidence-based techniques to promote behaviour change. Work closely with individuals to address underlying factors contributing to harmful behaviour, such as substance use, mental health issues, or homelessness.
3. Institutional Advocacy
Act as an expert in responding to those who harm, providing advice and guidance to colleagues in children’s social care and early help. Participate in institutional advocacy to influence policies and practices related to harmful behaviour and domestic abuse.
4. Case Management and Record Keeping
Manage a high-risk, complex domestic abuse caseload to reduce harm to victims and families. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, documentation, and intervention plans. Compile regular reports for stakeholders, ensuring compliance with data protection policies and legislation.
5. Multi-Agency Meetings
Participate in Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARACs) and Child Protection Case Conferences, contributing insights to enhance case planning and coordination.
6. Service and Project Development
Represent the service at local events, deliver training and presentations to raise awareness, and secure engagement from multi-agency partners. Contribute to service development, evaluation, and research activities. The job may require working at various locations in Cheshire East to meet service needs.
