Hydraulic Systems Engineer

We are looking for a skilled and practical Hydraulic Systems Engineer to join a busy and fast-paced design team in Havant. This is a great opportunity to work on innovative marine hydraulic systems, supporting the design, development, testing, and delivery of high-quality solutions from concept through to commissioning.
The role will suit someone with a strong background in hydraulic systems design and troubleshooting, who is comfortable working across engineering, production, project, and service functions. You will play a key role in delivering technically robust, reliable, and cost-effective hydraulic solutions for marine applications.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and optimise hydraulic systems for marine winches, windlasses, and related equipment.
Specify and size hydraulic components including pumps, motors, valves, manifolds, cylinders, accumulators, filtration, and pipework.
Support both new product development and legacy system upgrades, redesigns, and obsolescence management.
Work closely with mechanical, electrical, project, production, and service teams to ensure effective system integration.
Engage directly with customers and yards to understand requirements and provide practical engineering solutions.
Provide hands-on support during build, assembly, testing, installation, and commissioning.
Define and witness FAT/HAT testing, then analyse results to refine and improve system performance.
Produce and maintain hydraulic schematics, technical drawings, BOMs, specifications, and test reports.
Support project delivery, technical risk management, change control, and post-delivery service activity.
Drive continuous improvement in system reliability, sustainability, and maintainability.What We’re Looking For
Strong understanding of hydraulic system design, analysis, and troubleshooting.
Experience with marine winches, windlasses, or similar heavy-duty hydraulic equipment would be highly desirable.
Ability to interpret classification society rules and relevant industry standards.
Experience producing hydraulic schematics and technical documentation.
Practical, hands-on approach with a willingness to support build and test activity.
Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ownership of outcomes.
Confident communicator, able to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with Creo and AutoCAD would be an advantage.
Project management experience and a background in cross-functional teamwork would be beneficial.
