Job Description
Predominantly working across the Thames and parts of Hertfordshire and North London, MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation) Engineers provide vital in‑house maintenance and repair on equipment ranging from 1940’s pumps and navigable locks to the latest PLC‑controlled systems. You will play a key role in protecting people, property and the environment.
Responsibilities
* Travel across the region (work vehicle provided) to conduct routine maintenance, perform reactive maintenance and respond to breakdowns.
* Carry out small projects such as gearbox and drive‐system replacements.
* Participate in incident response on a 6‑week rotation as part of the contract.
* Use supplied personal electronic devices to accurately record maintenance activities, faults and repairs.
* Operate safely in all weather conditions across mixed urban and rural environments.
* Maintain and support the Field MEICA team’s asset management, maintenance and incident response operations.
Qualifications and Experience
* NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
* Ability to work effectively in a small, dispersed team, often being the sole engineer on site.
* Strong engineering judgment to make informed, effective decisions and repairs in a timely manner.
* Confidence in accessing assemblies or platforms using ladders and stairwells.
* Valid UK manual driving licence.
* Capability to travel to the base depot within 60 minutes to respond to incidents.
* Adherence to safety and environmental standards, with proper PPE use.
Desirable Skills (not essential)
* Experience with hydraulic and mechanical drive systems.
* Nationally recognised welding qualification.
* Knowledge of electronic control systems.

* The role does not qualify for skilled worker sponsorship.
* Base location: depots in Oxford or Sunbury. You will travel from there to sites across the region.
* Option to travel to sites within the Thames area.
