Offer description

At Salford, we currently have 23 clinical areas across two floors, covering major complex Neurosurgical and Spinal Surgery, Renal access surgery, Pain Service, complex ENT procedures, Neuro X Ray including a 24-hour stroke service, MR Scan supporting scans for complex patients requiring general anaesthetic, General surgical procedures including upper and lower GI, Gynaecology, and Urology, Orthopaedics, as well as two 24-hour emergency theatres.

Salford Royal is one of the largest neurosurgical centres in the UK, performing some of the most complex neurosurgical procedures in the country. It is the home of the Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital and leads on intestinal failure reconstruction in the UK. The hospital is also a leader in surgery and development, including investment in robotic surgery.

The off-duty schedule covers a 7-day week with early and late shifts from 07:30 to 20:00 hours. Due to the nature of the specialties, variation in shift patterns may be required; some rotation onto nights will be a future development. Shift patterns can be discussed at interview.

We are committed to lifelong learning through our learning and development team.

You will be proactive in providing a seamless service to all patients during their theatre journey and will have the ability to support junior staff and students. Additional responsibilities may be allocated by team leaders following discussion and completion of the trust’s ‘Contribution Framework’, which all SRFT employees complete.

You will need to demonstrate effective communication skills and be able to take charge of a theatre and, when needed, the department.

You must be a Registered ODP or Qualified Nurse with an Anaesthetic Qualification and demonstrate continued professional development.

Alongside the Trust’s SCARF programme, we are developing a bespoke Wellbeing Programme for staff within our theatre department, including wellbeing champions, fast-track physiotherapy, stress toolkits, and wellbeing cafes.

Our department is evolving, with new team structures such as “You Said We Did” and staff councils, giving staff a voice to influence department development.

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) provides hospital and integrated health and social care services to over one million people across Greater Manchester. Our 20,000 colleagues care for people in hospitals and communities across Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, and Salford, aiming to save and improve lives.

As a large NHS trust, we are committed to improving the health of our local population by delivering high standards of care and working closely with local authorities and partners. We value our core principles of care, appreciation, and inspiration, and seek individuals who embody these values.

We offer roles with purpose and flexibility, providing opportunities for career development. Our scale allows us to offer challenging roles and benefits such as a generous annual leave allowance, flexible working, and protected hours for wellbeing activities.

Please note: An NMC PRN PIN is not equivalent to a full NMC PIN and does not fulfill the essential criteria for this role. This vacancy is open to those with a current NMC PIN or those enrolled in a course expecting to receive their full NMC PIN within three months.

The NCA no longer accepts applications from international nurses and midwives who have not completed all competencies for a full NMC PIN, as the OSCE programme is paused indefinitely. For more information on obtaining a full NMC PIN, visit the NMC website: NMC How-to Guide.

For more details about the role and responsibilities, please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification available under the supporting documents. Additional information about working at the Northern Care Alliance can be found in the attached Candidate Information Pack or on our careers website: careers.northerncarealliance.nhs.uk.
