Job overview We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Consultant to join the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Department with an interest in Oncology/ Head and Neck Cancer. The unit provides Oral & Maxillofacial service, Oral Surgery, and Restorative dentistry. It also houses a Day Case GA / LA operative theatre. The department has access to a Cone Beam CT scanner. There is scope within the Trust to further develop the services provided. Within the department, new and follow-up clinics as well as minor operations are performed under local and general anaesthesia. Treatment is also provided under general anaesthesia, both as day case and inpatient care. The department enjoys good working relationships with other surgical services. The Trust is working in partnership with the local Major Trauma Centre at Cambridge University Hospital (CUH) to deliver an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery out of hours cover at weekends. A centralised oncology service is provided for the region from CUH. The department places a strong emphasis on the training of DCTs and SAS as well as providing teaching and education to regional DCTs and local General Dental Practitioners Advert Applicants are expected to have completed specialist training and have evidence of good outcomes in all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The successful applicant will be expected to provide a full range of Maxillofacial Surgery and will have the opportunity to develop subspecialist interests including, TMJ, orbital trauma and surgical dermatology. The post holder will be expected to work as a member of multidisciplinary teams working with groups of colleagues locally and regionally to develop and deliver high quality care as well as supporting all levels of trainees in managing outpatients, inpatients and emergencies. The post holder will be integrated into an on-call rota providing cover for emergency work locally and other units in the region as necessary. The post holder may be required to work off site and therefore the use of a vehicle or other form of transport will be necessary to meet these requirements. Detailed job description and main responsibilities This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time or job share applications will be considered. The post is to replace a departed consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery that is currently filled by Locum clinicians. The department provides secretarial support and office accommodation. The post holder will be expected to work with colleagues to provide a comprehensive acute and elective Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service. The main duties of the post will include: The post holder will be expected to work with colleagues to provide a comprehensive acute and elective Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service. This post will be support a sub-specialist interest in the management of skin cancer and OMFS Trauma. This post will include contributing to the skin MDT in conjunction with Plastic Surgery, Dermatology and Histopathology. Delivery of outpatient clinics, elective inpatient and day case surgery in Peterborough City Hospital. Urgent and emergency care duties, including out-of-hours on-call working within the provisions of working time regulations and safe working. On-call duties are shared with the Cambridge University Hospital Maxillofacial Surgery unit on a 1:10 rota, currently assessed at 1.3pa. Participation in teaching, training and audit, educational and clinical supervision of core trainees and SAS clinicians. Provision of advice and support to the clinical team and peers in a range of clinical and/or leadership situations in a professional and appropriate manner which inspires confidence, motivation, and teamwork within the field.
