Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner Emergency

The closing date is 25 June 2026

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to join our dynamic and well-established Emergency Department team. This role offers an excellent pathway for motivated clinicians looking to take the next step in their career, developing advanced clinical skills within a fast-paced and supportive environment.

There is an expectation that you will successfully complete your training programme in 3 years. You will be supported with 15 hours non‑clinical time per week and required to work clinically 22.5 hours per week for years 1 and 2, subject to change dependent on clinical and academic requirements. These hours will be between the hours of Monday‑Friday 0900‑1700 whilst in years 1 and 2 but subject to change when on rotation to other areas outside of Acute Medicine. In year 3, you will be expected to work 37.5 hours in clinical practice to consolidate your learning and complete your dissertation. Once you have completed all internal competences and academic study/exams successfully, you will then undergo a sign‑off appraisal where you will progress to a Trained ACP role at a Band 8a if all of the above are met.

Once you commence into a trained ACP role, you will then be required to cover a 24/7 rota in line with service need and working requirements.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver and participate in the clinical care of patients attending the Emergency Department and inpatients of the Trust
  • Prioritise health needs and intervene appropriately
  • Be professionally and legally accountable for all work undertaken to practice at an advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability within Trust policies and the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Conduct (2008) or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

About us

We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team – clinical or non‑clinical – plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.

We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.

Effective communication is central to safe and high‑quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.

By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values – ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.

Our aim at SaTH is to empower colleagues at all levels to have the confidence, capability, passion and knowledge, to test changes and make improvements at SaTH and the communities we serve.

In both your training post and trained post, irrelevant of base, you will be required to work across both RSH and PRH sites.

The successful candidate will be fully funded by NHSE Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice and will be required to enroll at Keele University on the Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice programme.
