Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a career progression for an existing member of the Team. We are seeking to recruit a caring, positive individual to contribute to the rehabilitation of patients who have suffered a stroke or acquired neurological condition.
As a Physiotherapy assistant you will work within a dynamic MDT to provide high quality therapy input. You will work under the direction of Physiotherapists to carry out therapy programmes with patients on the ward or in their own homes.

Main duties of the job
* To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the West Essex ESD Service.
* To be able to work closely with a specialist MDT to deliver care to stroke and neurological patients, in both a hospital and community setting.
* To attend planning and implementation meetings regarding service developments, as appropriate or if deputising for Physiotherapists.
* To prepare materials required for the assessment and treatment of patients in the Physiotherapy service, and undertake other administrative duties as required.
* Organise and prioritise time effectively, and contribute to organisation of patient timetables as required.
* To assist in maintaining the Physiotherapy team’s non-standardised and standardised assessment and treatment resources.
* To assist the team in supporting research projects relevant to the ESD service within the Trust’s Research and Development Strategy.
* To assist in the design and implementation of audits.
* To undertake searches of evidence based literature and research to inform clinical practice of the Physiotherapists within the service.
* To support the other professions within the ESD service as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To provide support to the Physiotherapists in assessment and treatment of patients within the service.
* To assist in the development of an evidence based framework of appropriate assessment and intervention to the benefit of clients of the service.
* To have a good working knowledge of stroke and other neurological conditions and how subsequent impairments may present and impact on presentation and function.
* To work within competencies under direct and indirect supervision of the Physiotherapists to implement and deliver specific tasks as part of goal directed treatment and rehabilitation programmes.
* To work alongside registered Physiotherapists and therapy assistants to provide a physiotherapy service to patients, managing your own caseload of patients, within the scope of competencies and under the guidance of a registered clinician.
* To act in such a way that safeguards the health and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults at all times. To follow EPUT safeguarding policies.
* To undertake continued professional development in line with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy recommendations, in order to develop skills and competencies that assist in delivery of current duties.
* To adhere to the codes of conduct of the Health and Care Professions Council, Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and to all Trust policies and procedures.
* To work within a 7-day working service, completing weekend and Bank Holiday shifts as per rota.
* To perform other duties appropriate to the grade of Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner (PAP) as may be requested by the Physiotherapy Team Lead or service coordinator.
Person specification
Experience
* Experience of working as a Therapy Assistant in Stroke and Neurology
* Experience and knowledge of Physiotherapy Assistant competencies
Essential- Other skills
* Excellent written and spoken English
* Good computer skills and knowledge of programmes
* Access to a car and full UK licence
