Were looking for a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our engineering team in Newport. This is a hands-on role supporting the smooth operation of the ports critical infrastructure.
Note: Application closes on the 29th August 2025.
Youll be responsible for:
* Mechanical maintenance, fault finding, and breakdown response across the Newport site
* Working on heavy plant & equipment, cranes, lock gate infrastructure, and bridges
* Ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently, with accurate reporting
Please note: You must be comfortable working at height and in confined spaces, including accessing cranes and lock bridge areas.
Skills, Experiences, Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
* Proven experience in heavy plant maintenance and repair
* Strong knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics systems
* Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces (e.g., cranes, lock bridges)
* Hands-on approach with excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills
* Experience in heavy industry environments such as steelworks, quarries, or manufacturing
* Ex-forces background welcomed
* Strong commitment to health and safety practices
* Ability to work independently and as part of a small, close-knit team
Hours: The shift pattern consists of two alternating weekday shifts: 06:0014:00 and 14:0022:00, Monday to Friday. Additionally, there is a one-in-six weekend rota covering 06:0018:00 on both Saturday and Sunday. Weekend hours are compensated as overtime.
