Join Our Team: Operative (Hayling Island) The local council is looking for a dedicated and community-minded Operative to help maintain the beauty and safety of Hayling Island. Role Overview This is a multi-functional, fixed-term position running until the end of September 2026. You will be a key presence on the seafront, ensuring the island remains clean, safe, and welcoming for both residents and visitors. Location: Hayling Island. Salary: £14.56 per hour. Work Pattern: A rolling 4 day on/4 day off rota, with hours varying by season. What You Will Be Doing Your daily tasks will be varied and active, including: Seafront Stewardship: Conducting beach patrols, checking life savers, and inspecting beach huts and street furniture. Environmental Maintenance: Street cleansing, litter picking, and emptying litter/dog waste bins. Facility Care: Opening, closing, and cleaning public conveniences to a scheduled cleaning regime. Community Engagement: Advising the public on local bye-laws and providing guidance to visitors. Technical Tasks: Jet washing, basic maintenance of tools and machinery, and completing essential health and safety paperwork. What We Are Looking For We need someone who is reliable, has a good level of fitness, and is comfortable working in all weather conditions. Essential Requirements: A full, clean driving licence. Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements and COSHH. Excellent communication skills and a high standard of customer service. The ability to work independently or as part of a team. A commitment to core values of quality, innovation, respect, and trust. Desirable Qualities: Previous experience in Facilities Management, Streets, or Grounds roles.
