About The Role
Balfour Beatty is looking for a Senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor to join our Power Transmission and Distribution team, working on National Grid projects in the South West.
The Senior HSW Advisor will support the project to drive HSW performance and enable the project to achieve our Zero Harm objectives.
What you'll be doing
* Implement Business Unit Zero Harm strategy through visible leadership to drive the delivery of the Zero Harm Action Plan.
* Provide project teams with expert HS&W technical advice, guidance and support.
* Collaboratively engage with internal and external customers and the supply chain to promote zero harm delivery.
* Work with operational management to complete a local bespoke risk‑based Service Level Agreement with each project, reviewed quarterly, to ensure compliance with HS&W requirements.
* Conduct regular site inspections as per the project risk matrix and produce formal reports using the Project Portal.
* Monitor Health and Safety Risk Management to identify and implement appropriate risks and opportunities.
* Support investigations of accidents, incidents, near‑miss events in accordance with Balfour Beatty Group Standards and BMS requirements.
* Assist work‑winning teams with HS&W responses for bids, proposals and PQQs for future projects.
* Collaborate with design & engineering teams to eliminate and reduce HS&W risk through design.
* Innovate and improve work practices while keeping pace with industry change.
* Provide support and mentoring to other HS&W colleagues.
Who we're looking for
* Relevant H&S Diploma, NVQ, Degree or equivalent; candidates working towards a level‑6 qualification may also be considered with relevant on‑site experience and a Chartered IOSH membership.
* Strong understanding of the UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework.
* Ability to influence and promote a positive HS&W culture at all levels.
* Experience in project planning, project management and working to budgets.
* Competence in incident investigation.
* Skills to prepare formal written reports on HS&W topics.
* Commitment to continual learning and application of expertise.
* Broad experience of complex construction and civil projects.
