Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is recruiting Senior Clinical Advisors in our Emergency Operations Centres (999) based in Wakefield and York.
We are currently only recruiting clinicians who are NMC RN1 or HCPC Paramedic registered. We do not accept NMC PRN registrations as they do not fulfil the essential criteria for the role.
Internal Paramedic Applicants may choose to work 100% as an EOC Senior Clinical Advisor or opt for a rotational role (5 weeks in A&E and 5 weeks in EOC); preference will be requested during the application process. This vacancy is only for Wakefield & York call centres.
The role starts on a training contract and, upon successful completion, transitions to a permanent contract. There are no home‑working opportunities.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Clinical Advisor assesses health and clinical needs, utilises evidence‑based practice, professional judgement and decision‑support software to achieve safe clinical outcomes for patients. The role requires both generalist and specialist skills to assess and deliver care to patients in emergency settings.
Applicants should have experience in emergency care, assessment of high‑acuity symptoms, a broad knowledge of conditions, and an understanding of red‑flag symptoms and consequences. Key skills include:
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to work with a variety of clinical specialists to ensure safe clinical processes
* Capability to make quick, safe clinical decisions under pressure and to identify red‑flag symptoms and conditions
* Undertaking referrals to internal and external clinicians
The Senior Clinical Advisor will provide medical assessment, medication advice, health information, and implement care packages to a range of individuals, liaising with other agencies and healthcare providers as necessary.
Job responsibilities
* Registered professional (RN1 or HCPC Paramedic) with current valid registration
* Minimum 2 years post‑qualification experience in acute or primary care settings with experience of clinical assessment
* Experience of telephone triage and a mentoring role
* Knowledge and competence in using IT to access databases and software programmes
* Understanding of audit, evaluation and clinical governance
* Ability to assess and manage clinical risk appropriately
* Adaptability to changing processes and procedures; ability to manage a demanding workload and remain calm under pressure
Person specification
