Senior Dental Officer – Oral Surgery
North Cheshire and Mersey NHS Foundation Trust (BCH) – Closing date: 15 May 2026.
Job Responsibilities
* Provide outpatient minor oral surgery for patients at clinic sites across Cheshire and Merseyside (Warrington, Halton & St Helens, Western Cheshire, Vale Royal and Sandbach).
* Perform extractions of single and multiple‑rooted erupting teeth beyond the skill level of a general dentist.
* Remove buried roots, fractured or residual root fragments.
* Carry out routine third molar surgery, including removal of simple impacted, ectopic or supernumerary teeth.
* Manage acute oral infections.
* Administer local anaesthetic and, where required, intravenous sedation (typically acting as the operator‑sedationist).
* Provide clinical advice and assistance to other staff and referring practitioners.
* Collaborate with specialist senior dental officers on case management, service development and the implementation of best practice within Clinical Networks.
* Ensure that referring practitioners receive adequate feedback after assessment and treatment of referred cases.
* Engage in undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes.
* Participate in clinical governance, peer review and audit processes.
* Maintain high‑standard patient records in accordance with Organisational Policies and local arrangements.
* Support service improvement initiatives and maintain knowledge of current developments in dentistry.
* Perform line management duties for clinicians and dental care professionals within the service, including organising training and performance management of service level agreements.
Qualifications
* BDS or equivalent, with full GDC registration.
* NHS Performer number.
* Appropriate DBS clearance.
* Post‑graduate certificate in minor oral surgery.
* Tier 2 oral surgery accreditation.
* Participation in clinical governance, quality assurance and audit.
Experience
* Significant post‑qualification oral surgery experience.
* Experience working with a wide range of patient groups.
* Experience in a Salaried Primary Dental Care Service or equivalent.
* Participation in a multidisciplinary team.

* Self‑motivated, with excellent interpersonal skills.
* Leadership and organisational skills to aid team development.
* Experience using DENTALLY dental software.
* Demonstrated competencies of a Band B dentist.
