Job title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Coventry (2/3 days minimum on-site per week). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.
Salary: Negotiable depending on experience.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
2. Coordinate with stakeholders to oversee the delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
3. Support assurance activities in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
4. Work with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, reporting progress through agile tools.
5. Ensure timely delivery of the engineering plan.
6. Guide and instruct on engineering methods to meet delivery objectives.
7. Collaborate with the Engineering Delivery Team to develop technical solutions and foster team development.
8. Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions from baseline designs.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
* Experience in designing large-scale C&I systems, ensuring compliance with functional, defence, and industrial standards.
* Managing non-functional requirements like EMC and shock to meet industrial standards.
* Proficiency in authoring/reviewing design documents such as I/O schedules, functional specifications, interface control documents, etc.
* Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Science.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of control system architecture and communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, PROFIBUS).
* Experience with IEC 61508 – Functional Safety and safety evidence documentation.
* Experience with maneuvering systems across industries.
