Join Us as a QTS-Qualified SLD Teacher in Aylesbury - Sixth Form, SEND Specialist Role Are you an experienced and passionate QTS-qualified teacher with a strong commitment to supporting students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) in a 6th Form setting? We are seeking a dedicated SLD Teacher to join our thriving special needs provision in the Aylesbury area. This is an outstanding opportunity to inspire post-16 learners with diverse abilities and SEN needs and help them develop the skills for greater independence and success. About the School & the Students Located in Aylesbury and part of a thriving special school federation, our provision serves learners aged 11-19, including a specialised 6th Form. We support around 100-105 students across secondary and post-16 phases, grouped in small classes of 6-10 to ensure personalised attention. Our ethos is grounded in the belief that every student can achieve with the right support. We foster independence, communication, and self-confidence through a curriculum organised around key themes and real-life functional skills. Creative arts, personal, social, moral, and emotional education are integral, underpinned by a commitment to developing resilience, determination, trust, kindness, respect, equity, and friendship in all learners. Students benefit from a multi-professional support network including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, educational psychologists, and specialist teachers. Approximately 95% receive speech and language support, with around half also benefiting from OT or physiotherapy. Role Highlights and Key Responsibilities As our new SLD Teacher in the Sixth Form, you will: Plan, deliver, and adapt stimulating and accessible lessons tailored to diverse SEN needs. Lead and coordinate with support staff and teaching assistants to maximise learning outcomes. Monitor, assess, and record each student's progress, adjusting your approach accordingly. Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary professionals (therapists, psychologists, etc.) to integrate therapeutic strategies into daily teaching. Promote independence, life skills, and social-emotional development through purposeful and engaging learning experiences. Contribute to a supportive, creative, and inclusive learning environment. Communicate effectively with families, carers, and professionals to support holistic student development. Required Qualifications & Experience To succeed in this role, you must: Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Have experience teaching students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) or significant SEND needs, particularly within post-16 or 6th Form contexts. Demonstrate strong skills in adaptive, inclusive pedagogy and personalised learning. Be highly collaborative, with the ability to work effectively within a multi-professional team. Exhibit warmth, resilience, flexibility, and a good sense of humour-essential qualities for this rewarding but sometimes demanding role.
