Role at Environment Agency – applying technical expertise in marine environments, modelling and data analysis to support evidence-based decisions.
Job Description
As part of Operations Catchment Services, you will support the Marine team in assessing the impact of discharges on water quality, modelling bathing water quality and nutrient loads, and contributing to national initiatives such as Nuclear New Build and the Water Industry National Environment Programme. There are two positions: one permanent and one fixed‑term 6‑month role.
Responsibilities
* Review reports and summarise key information for decision‑making.
* Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection.
* Apply sound records management principles.
* Provide timely answers to technical questions.
* Summarise and communicate technical work and, when necessary, escalates challenges.
* Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners.
* Use initiative to contribute to the work of the team and the wider organisation.
* Take on incident management duties, with full training and support provided. Additional payment and flexible arrangements may apply.
Experience and Skills
* Experience in data analysis, preferably with modelling software.
* Proficiency in tools such as Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS and specialist packages like Mike or Cormix.
* Knowledge of water quality and marine environment is desirable.
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline; professional membership may be pursued.
* Comfortable working in a virtual team and travelling occasionally for national meetings.

* Full‑time, national role with flexible/hybrid working arrangements.
* Central Office base – EA Office, location flexible.
