As a Protection & Control Engineer working within the UK Energy business, you will be responsible for working as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver the power transmission infrastructure that will deliver Net Zero to the UK Energy System. WSP has a significant workload that will offer the opportunity to develop yourself and others over the next decade, with over 300km of OHL to design.

* Design protection and control systems for electrical power transmission and distribution networks.
* Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation using software tools such as AutoCAD and ETAP.
* Perform technical calculations and analysis to ensure the reliability and performance of protection and control systems.
* Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
* Conduct site surveys and assessments to gather data for design purposes.
* Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and construction teams to integrate protection and control design requirements into project plans.
* Review and approve design modifications and provide technical support during installation and commissioning.
* Conduct design reviews and quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy and completeness.
* Stay updated with the latest advancements in protection and control technology and design practices.
Qualifications
* Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering
* Proven experience in the design of protection and control schemes.
* Knowledge of Electrical Networks and Engineering standards
* Experience of interpreting technical documentation relating to design.
* Knowledge and experience of working with main suppliers’ products of substation control equipment (such as ABB / Hitachi, Siemens, GE)
* Experience in main standard protocols such as IEC 61850, IEC 60870.
* Preferable – Attained / working towards chartered engineer status
* Preferable – National Grid BP141 Authorisation
