Offer description

A bit about this role

Trap Neuter Return (TNR) programmes are crucial, as feral and abandoned cats present a huge challenge for communities and rural areas across East Cornwall.

Our Launceston & District Branch are looking for Volunteers, based locally to assist with the following:

What can you expect to be doing?

* Trapping cats using humane methods and specialist equipment provided.
* Transporting cats to local vets to be neutered.
* Returning cats to their territory or relocating to a suitable alternative (predetermined location by TNR leader)

The role might also include:

* Delivery of food or equipment to support feral colonies.
* Promoting neutering by building relationships with farmers, landowners and local businesses.
* Surveying locations and forming a most effective approach and which equipment to use.

What are the benefits to you and the cats?

You will develop new skills, expand your knowledge and make a significant contribution to improving the lives of cats and kittens by helping reduce the feral and stray cats in your local area. You will also meet new people, make new friends and be part of a dedicated team of volunteers.

We're looking for someone with:

* Basic knowledge of cats and cat care
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* A well organised and practical approach
* Patience and perseverance
* Physically fit (the equipment used is reasonably heavy)
* Good communication skills
* A UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (potentially able to drive a small van).
* Flexible and plenty of free time, as most TNR work takes place in the evenings, vet drop off is at 8:45am.
* Able to work in all weather.
* Happy to travel across East Cornwall (fuel expenses reimbursed).

Time expectation

Time expectation can vary for this role based on how many TNR jobs there are at a current time. Launceston & District Branch are currently experiencing high volumes of requests from the public for this service, so expect for there to be a reasonable amount to keep you busy. Feral trapping has no set time limit, as some jobs will conclude much faster than others. Will include evenings (trapping) and mornings (drop off at vets).

Support, training and keeping you safe:

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. There is a TNR Lead in the Branch who will provide in-person shadowing opportunities to learn on the job, as well as our Learn Online portal that provides plenty of courses to support your role.

The wellbeing of our people is important and at Cats Protection we are committed to safeguarding children, adults at risk and all those that we encounter as part of our activities.
