Job description
Air Sector is engaged in a critical role on the Dreadnought submarine programme to develop the functional design of the Active Vehicle Control System (AVCS), the system used to drive and manoeuvre that boat. The work uses Model Based Systems Engineering MBSE techniques at scale on a safety critical system.
We currently have vacancies for Development Engineers within Mechanical, Actuation, Fluidic Systems or Operator Assistance to be based at Brough
You will be responsible for the functional design and development of the control, management or monitoring of Mechanical, Actuation or Fluidic Systems, working in one of the delivery work stream teams as part of the AVC Functional Software organisation. You will be involved in aspects of the in the concept, requirements definition, detailed design and development to delivery.
The Dreadnought AVC programme operates a 'One Team' construct with partners BAE System's Submarines and Electronic Systems.
You will be a self-motivated and proactive individual, able to analyse complex problems and work autonomously and in a structured manner. You will have excellent communications skills with an ability to liaise with a broad range of stakeholders including senior management.

Key Responsibility Areas
The successful candidate will be expected to have some experience across the Engineering Lifecycle, knowledge of the Flight, Marine or Mission Systems knowledge is desirable, including an appreciation of software development and modelling & simulation. Additionally, the candidate should have an openness to learning new skills, concepts and approaches to developing MBSE products and have excellent communication skills. The project represent a significant opportunity for personal development in a high profile product delivery team especially in the area of modelling and simulation, as well as systems engineering skills.
Model Based Design (MBD) development and integration of the System, including interfacing with the Control & Instrumentation (C&I), Platform Mechanical and Software work streams. In this role the jobholder shall be responsible for some or all of the following, working closely with stakeholders within BAES Submarines:
1. Understanding and capturing device and system control requirements.
2. Develop Functional Architecture and interface definition.
3. Produce control model concepts, then detailed design models and test harnesses.
4. Verify and Validate textual requirements in preparation for delivery.
5. Documenting the design.
6. Contributing to safety analysis of the products.
7. Maintain consistent communication across the AVC 'One Team' construct.
8. Develop and harmonise processes in line with Maritime and Air Sector policies.
9. Capture Learning From Experience (LFE).

13. A background in developing products within the broader systems engineering lifecycle.
14. Knowledge and experience of other system modelling and simulation toolsets; including other Mathworks tools, DOORs, SCADE, SySML.
