IT Engineer - 2nd Line

Corsham / Hybrid – 2 days in office
The IT Engineer provides second-line technical support and plays a key role in maintaining secure, reliable, and compliant IT systems across the organisation.
The role acts as an escalation point for complex service issues, while also supporting the IT & Information Security Manager in delivering information security, governance, and compliance activities.
Operating within a defence and security‑conscious environment, the IT Engineer contributes to both IT service delivery and the protection of organisational information, ensuring systems and processes align with standards such as ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the escalation point for second-line technical issues from the IT Support Technician
* Troubleshoot and resolve complex incidents across infrastructure, endpoints, networks, and applications
* Support incident, problem, and change management processes
* Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity to ensure resilience and service continuity
* Install, configure, maintain, and optimise IT systems including servers, networks, cloud services, and end‑user devices
* Support patching, updates, and vulnerability remediation activities
* Assist in implementing and maintaining security policies, standards, and controls aligned to ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials, and Defence Cyber Certification requirements
* Support cyber security operations including monitoring, incident response, root cause analysis, and escalation
* Assist with supplier assurance activities and customer security requirements
* Contribute to continuous service improvement, reporting, and risk reduction initiatives
Skills & Experience
* Experience in an IT support or infrastructure role (ideally second-line experience)
* Understanding of networking, systems administration, and cloud technologies
* Working knowledge of information security principles and frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials)
* Experience supporting security controls, audits, or compliance activities (desirable)
* Familiarity with IT service management processes (incident, problem, change)
* Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
