We are recruiting for an Team Lead Occupational Therapist who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients to join our Respiratory and Surgical Team at Lister Hospital in Stevenage.

We are looking for someone with previous experience of team leadership and clinical expertise.

We are able to offer you the opportunity to work in a well established multi-disciplinary team and to develop your OT skills and clinical leadership.

This post may suit an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist looking to move into their first Band 7 role or a Band 7 looking for a new role.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide clinical and professional leadership to a team of qualified staff and technical instructors.

Attend operational and service related meetings as a representative of OT and Therapy Services, to advise on service developments in line with national standards, guidelines and current evidence base.

To take a lead role in the assessment and treatment of respiratory and surgical patients including amputees; with diverse, chronic presentation and highly complex physical and cognitive presentation.

Assist in the formulation of clinical diagnosis and treatment indicated and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner and ensure others do the same.

To plan, coordinate and evaluate specifically the OT interventions provided to patients on a day to day basis, and to contribute to the wider Therapy service.

Be responsible for and to undertake a clinical caseload to a high professional standard, using specialist knowledge and skills from theoretical and practical experience.

To undertake/lead evidence-based audit and research projects to develop and enhance personal and team’s clinical practice; To implement specific changes to practice; To write and/or contribute to service standards, protocols and clinical care pathways.

Essential criteria

* Post Qualification experience of working with patients post complex surgery including amputation
* Ability to reflect on own practise and that of others
* Evidence of development in CPD portfolio
* Membership of relevant Specialist Interest Group
* Ability to promote development in others.
* Experience of supervision and appraisal of more junior members of staff.
* Student placement supervisor
* Adaptable, flexible, investigative, analytical
* Demonstrate Team Management and Leadership qualities
* Previous relevant NHS/Social Services Post Graduate experience. In addition, significant post registration experience within this clinical area.
* Evidence of active involvement in Service Improvement (to include appraisal, audit and implementation of change)


Desirable criteria

* Experience of working within an ITU setting

Essential criteria

* Ability to monitor and maintain best practice in all aspects of health and Safety and clinical governance – in own practices and of wider service
* Ability to prioritise all aspects of own post and influence the work of others
* Understanding of all issues/policies relating to maintenance and/or implementation of quality
* Demonstrate skills in planning Time Management and Problem Solving
* Clear, concise and ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences
* Ability to utilise a variety of mediums and approaches
* Able to influence, guide, teach, motivate and lead others
* Information Technology skills including: e-mail, Word, Excel & Power Point
* Significant post registration experience within this clinical area
* Knowledge of relevant standardised assessment tools and outcome measures relevant to the specialty
* Knowledge of advanced anatomy and physiology related to this clinical area
* Highly developed understanding of OT process and terms of reference
* Able to demonstrate in depth skills in the assessment and application of a range of specific skills, to include: postural management and seating, cognition and memory
* Extensive knowledge of a range of disability equipment
* Highly specialist knowledge of moving and handling legislation and knowledge of current moving and handling best practice and associated equipment


Qualifications/Training


Essential criteria

* Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registration
* Practice Placement Educator
* Accredited Wheelchair Assessor
* Knowledge of current legislation at DOH and CCG level
* Knowledge and application of Professional Code of Conduct and Ethics
