Calibre Conservation is hiring a Paintings and Polychromy Conservator to join our small, expert team. We specialise in the conservation of historic buildings and their decorative finishes across the UK.
You’ll work on a diverse range of projects involving:
* Fine art easel paintings
* Hand-painted decoration, stencilling, trompe l'œil, and faux finishes
* Gilded and polychrome surfaces on plaster, timber, canvas, metal, stone, and composites
Key Responsibilities:
* Conservation assessments, cleaning, consolidation, retouching, and documentation
* On-site conservation of painted interiors and finishes
* Paint sampling, analysis, and condition reporting
* Collaboration with clients, architects, and other specialists
* Adherence to professional conservation ethics (ICON standards)
Requirements:
* Qualification in conservation (MA or equivalent), specialising in paintings or polychromy
* Hands-on experience in easel painting and/or decorative surface conservation
* Skilled in traditional techniques including gilding, stencilling, and retouching
* Strong documentation/reporting abilities
* Willingness to travel and work on-site (sometimes at height or in heritage settings)
* UK driving licence (or ability to travel independently)
Desirable:
* Experience with historic interiors and traditional finishes
* CSCS card (or willingness to obtain one)
