Job Description
Our Tier 1 automotive client based in Coventry is seeking a CAD Engineer to develop seating systems and subsystems that meet all project specifications and requirements from concept to stable production at rate. This includes creating 3D geometry and 2D drawings that define products meeting or exceeding the requirements set out in the product specification.
The role involves participation in problem-solving activities, seat build events, customer, supplier, and internal meetings, and other team events.
Responsibilities
1. Develop 3D geometry for components and assemblies using Catia V5 or NX software.
2. Create complete and unambiguous 2D drawings properly defining the 3D geometry.
3. Apply geometric tolerancing and datum strategies to drawings according to applicable standards.
4. Manage 2D and 3D data files within the Client Product Lifecycle Management system (based on Teamcentre).
5. Participate in releasing activities and project-related meetings.
6. Convert data files to formats suitable for customers or suppliers – STEP, JT, etc.
7. Perform package studies to ensure robust system integration.
8. Perform tolerance calculations to meet functional requirements.
9. Ensure models comply with legal, customer, and client seating and safety requirements.
10. Ensure product manufacturability by providing adequate tool access and eliminating blind operations.
11. Participate in building prototype seats and creating physical component mock-ups.
12. Support, coordinate, and audit offshore tasks in the best cost countries.
Skills Required
* At least 2 years’ experience using CAD software.
* Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling.
* Proficiency in 2D detailing and drawing creation.
* Tertiary level STEM qualification or 5 years of relevant experience.
* Ability to read engineering drawings.
* Proficiency in MS Office applications.
* Experience in automotive seating or plastics component design.
