Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner
Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice supports children with life‑shortening conditions, their families and families living with loss across West Yorkshire. We provide a broad range of care, from nursing to hydrotherapy, memory making and bereavement support. As part of this multidisciplinary team we need a Trauma Therapist with advanced skills in compassion‑focused therapy, EMDR, CBT or similar.
Overview of Role
Carry out trauma‑informed assessments on individuals and families, provide psychosocial support, facilitate therapeutic intervention and maintain professional standards and safeguarding procedures. Work may take place at the hospice, in a local community space or your own designated therapy room.
Job Responsibilities
* Conduct trauma‑informed assessments and risk assessments for self‑harm and suicide risk.
* Develop and implement formulation and support plans based on clinical needs.
* Deliver therapeutic interventions using trauma, adversity and bereavement theory.
* Empower families and members to make decisions and manage coping strategies.
* Maintain clear communication with multidisciplinary team, referral agencies and family members.
* Keep accurate, contemporaneous professional records in compliance with legal and accreditation standards.
* Implement outcome measures such as PHQ‑9, SDQ, AAG and Impact of Events Scale.
* Manage caseload with structured, flexible, responsive planning and time‑management.
* Attend and contribute to supervision and professional development activities.
* Adhere to safeguarding and local Children's Safeguarding Board procedures.
* Maintain professional registration and meet BACP or relevant professional standards.
Essential Requirements
* Disclosable Barring Service (DBS) check (provided by employer).
* Recognised professional counselling or psychotherapy qualification.
* Membership of BACP, NCS or another professional counselling body.
* Minimum 2 years post‑registration experience working with trauma and loss.
* Qualified in an area of trauma therapy (EMDR, CBT, Compassion‑Focused Therapy).
* Experience supporting adults affected by pregnancy, baby and child bereavement.
* Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and empathy skills.
* Strong caseload and time‑management abilities.
* Computer‑literacy and ability to work under minimal supervision.
Desirable
* EMDR training and qualification.
* Specific grief and loss training.
* Knowledge of children’s hospice philosophy and perinatal mental health.
* Post‑graduate qualifications in trauma, psychotherapy or counselling.
* Experience of working within safeguarding procedures.

Working Pattern: Full‑time, Part‑time or Flexible according to practitioner availability
Salary: Variable, depending on experience
Location: Fell Greave Road, Huddersfield, HD2 1NH (or your own therapy space if available).
Disclosure and Barring Service Check: This position requires a DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
Certificate of Sponsorship: Applications from UK Skilled Worker visa holders are welcomed and will be considered alongside other candidates.
UK Professional Registration: Candidates must hold current UK professional registration (e.g., BACP, NCS).
