Please note that this role is for a night shift (9pm-5am) at Heathrow Airport. Job Summary To install fire alarm and associated life safety systems in line with the current requirements applicable to the Heathrow contract, liaising with the Office staff to ensure best practice and the most cost effective solution. To complete and return all company documentation and certification to comply with the company’s systems and procedures. To work as a team with colleagues to maintain and improve the company’s reputation in relation to quality and customer service. The job role will include & require flexible shift working to achieve contract requirements. Principal Responsibilities • Carry out installation activities in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner in line with the Company’s quality standards. • Carry out all other necessary works required at customer premises in accordance with the Company’s quality standards. • Carry out small works and projects works in line with the Company’s quality standards. • To provide engineering backup and holiday cover as requested by the Regional Manager. • Support the Engineering Team as required to maintain a reliable and responsive on site service support for the Heathrow contract. • Effectively communicate with customers to ensure a good understanding of system and site status, particularly system defects that affect its correct function. • Liaise with the Regional Manager and Administrator to ensure install commitments are met. • Plan own work, including installations are in line with relevant standards. • Ensure legible and timely completion of all company paperwork in line with Company requirements. • Be responsible for the management and security of own install equipment in an efficient and economical manner by determining stock levels in relation to work activities and ordering stock items as and when appropriate. • Operate in accordance with the Company Handbook and all Company and customer’s quality standards and health and safety requirements. • Pass on any potential leads for further business to the Regional Manager. • Discuss any suggestions for installation improvement with the Regional Manager. • Attend training sessions identified by the Company and identify and communicate to the Engineering Manager any personal training and development needs. • Identify and advise immediately any on site issues that would otherwise leave the client with lack of protection or coverage of their life safety systems. Key Competencies Required • Able to identify all types of cable associated with fire detection and alarm systems. and to correctly test and terminate the cable ends in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions. • Able to operate all required test equipment • Demonstrates a logical and highly competent approach to the installation of Fire Detection and Alarm Systems. • Able to install and remove devices from Gent network systems. • Understands detailed schematics and for construction issue drawings. • Able to work effectively as part of a team. • Understands different types of cable containment systems. • Deal with customers, end-users, construction personnel and in-house staff in a professional manner. • Verbal and written communication. Technical Knowledge Required • Full and detailed understanding of BS5839 Pt:1 2002 (including A1 & 2) amendments) and specifically Fire Alarm System Installation. • Full and detailed understanding of BS5839 Pt 8. • Completed Units 1,4,5,6 and 8 of FIA Training. • Understands the basic building service systems, e.g. air conditioning systems, with a view to interfacing with them. • Gent Vigilon Products. • Understanding, Installation of PA/VA systems. • Has a comprehensive understanding of the causes and cures of fire alarm problems, including an ability to recommend changes to practices and processes that may cause false alarms as well as changes to the fire detection and alarm system. • Basic Electrical Safety training (ECA) • Manufacturers training with a minimum requirement of Gent equipment in respect of servicing, • Manufacturers Training in all other equipment as required. This may include VESDA, Radio, Fire Suppression and will be decided by the Engineering Manager based on the needs of the Contract. • Fire Extinguishing System Installation. The Heathrow Engineer will have suitable Qualifications and Training to support his skills, technical knowledge and responsibilities. Standard • BS5839 Pt1 & Pt 8. • BS7671. • BS6266 where required. • To operate business processes within the framework of BN EN ISO 9001:2000, LPS1014 and ISO14001:2004.
