The full-time starting salary is normally £35,331 per annum, with progression available in post to £39,002 per annum.

Are you a skilled and passionate fine woodworker and craftsperson? Do you have experience sharing knowledge and skills while maintaining safe and creative workshop facilities? Birmingham City University, Art, Design and Media Faculty, has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Technician - Woodwork to join our technical team.
The role focuses on supporting students in producing high-quality outcomes across courses such as Architecture, Interior Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Product and Furniture Design, while managing the safe and efficient operation of the woodwork facilities. A broad range of woodworking skills and experience is essential, with an emphasis on skill delivery.
While expertise in wood processes is central, candidates should also be able to support students using other materials like plastics, metals, and ceramics where appropriate.
The successful candidate will work well independently and as part of a team, carrying out tasks including:
* Training students through 1:1 instruction and group demonstrations.
* Maintaining equipment and scheduling servicing.
* Ordering materials and managing stock records.
* Promoting sustainable practices and resource use.
* Managing bookings for appointments and demonstrations.
* Creating and reviewing health and safety documentation.
* Ensuring health and safety standards are maintained at all times.
* Collaborating with technical colleagues to support their development.
Qualifications include a degree or equivalent in a relevant subject, with significant practical experience in woodwork at various scales. Strong communication skills for teaching and liaising with students, colleagues, and external organizations are required. IT skills should include proficiency in Microsoft Office, CAD, Asset Management software, and online communication tools.
Desirable qualifications include CNC router operation, steam bending, veneering, First Aid, COSHH, and IOSH/NEBOSH certifications.
