Overview
This is a full-time consultant Haematologist post based primarily at the Kent and Canterbury site with one day per week at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford. The role includes outpatient clinics, on-call duties, multidisciplinary team participation and laboratory support within the Haematology and Haemophilia services at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties and responsibilities
* Provide outpatient care with 3 clinics per week plus Haemostasis on-call duties.
* Clinics include: Haemophilia & Thrombosis clinic; Immune Cytopenias (ITP; AIHA) clinic; Myeloproliferative Neoplasm (MPN) clinic; plus a Haemoglobinopathy clinic once per month; provide support to the laboratory.
* Attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and participate in a 1 in 5 Haemostasis on-call rota (separate on-call rotas exist for Haemostasis and Haem-oncology/General Haematology).
* Provide clinical interpretation of haematological laboratory tests and offer Haematologist support to the Haematology laboratories.
* Engage in clinical audit and other departmental clinical governance activities and support appraisal and revalidation.
* Undertake other duties appropriate for a consultant haematologist as required.
Team and environment
The post is part of the Diagnostics, Buckland and Cancer Care group within a Trust focused on improving cancer access standards and service development. Training is provided for rotational Haematology trainees from the Kings/KSS training programme.
Qualifications and requirements
* Full and Specialist registration with the General Medical Council (licence to practise).
* UK-trained applicants should have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award by date of interview; non-UK trained applicants must show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT by date of interview.
* MRCP or equivalent; FRCPath or equivalent.
* English language requirements: English Level 2 (GCSE C or equivalent), IELTS, or equivalent qualification.
Skills and experience
* Experience in diagnosing and treating haemato-oncology disorders.
* Experience in laboratory work.
Clinical governance and on-call
* Demonstrate consistent safety and professional conduct; effective communication skills.
* Willingness to travel between sites to meet role requirements; participate in on-call commitments.
